T’was the night before Christmas, and all through my house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
The holiday filming had already aired.
The schnauzer was nestled all snug in my bed,
While visions of cookies danced in her head.
And I with my iPhone on mute in my hand
Smiled at my décor – t’was just as I’d planned.
When out by the street there arose such a clatter
That Violet charged down to investigate matters.
Away to the window, I flew like a flash,
“Violet, be quiet”, and leaned on the sash.
And what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a fine group of strangers: “Hey Mar, get down here!”
I knew in that moment my friends had arrived
To take in my sights, and so right in we dived.
I whistled, and shouted, and called for Miss V,
“Christmas Eve is here now, and such good cheer I see!
Now Katie! Now Geri! Now Trish, Mary, Lori!
Come share Christmas magic, and let’s tell some stories.”
And then, in a twinkling and tinkling of ice,
We all had our nightcaps, and yum they were nice.
We cheered and rejoiced and then toasted “No snow!”
Soon clock chimes announced it was time they must go.
“Now dash away, dash through the gardens you go.”
Violet and I remained here, all aglow.
As they drove out of sight I glanced up at the sky
And counted my blessings, and heaved a sweet sigh.
I winked and whispered to God up above:
Merry thanks for your gifts of such joy, life, and love.
Merry Christmas everyone!
