I’ve died and gone to PICKETS !!!
Several years ago, I was visiting a local Fairfield nursery on Bronson Road, and off the beaten track in Greenfield Hill, I discovered a place called Pickets. I was immediately attracted to this place by the stylish window displaying an early 20th century bench. Upon entering, I was hooked! The owner of this shop soon became my newfound friend as I was always welcomed with a friendly face. This was a little slice of heaven, and I couldn’t believe my luck in finding it.

This dreamy place is filled with treasures from cast-iron planters, stone urns, garden ornaments, furniture, lamps, dishware and glassware, books, unusual accessories, a wide variety of elegant gifts and antiques. The prices here are very reasonable and the goods move out of the store rapidly. Laura Baker, the owner, is constantly changing everything and buying new merchandise. With these excellent prices, things move quickly. I’ve always said, "If you see it and you like it, don’t go home and think about it - it won’t be there when you return". Looking for that perfect little gift? Here you can buy one of a kind pieces or that little special gift beautifully wrapped and ready to go. One can get lost with all the wonderful things available to buy and look at. No matter if you choose to go once a week or daily, there will be something new to discover.

This summer, I had the pleasure of having Laura visit my home to show her just what happens to her treasures after they leave her shop. I was proud to point out each item that I cherished and found in her store. As we toured my house and gardens, Pickets was evident everywhere.

Whether you’re a pro or a beginner in shopping and collecting, Pickets and stores like it must make the top of your list as a resource and shopping destination. It is open Monday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm. Once you make the journey and find this little shop tucked away in the Greenfield Hill section of Fairfield, you too will feel as if you have died and gone to heaven. But don’t worry, you won’t be alone - I too will be there.
