MAR-Be-Que PARTY IDEAS
I often get asked to Barbeque parties—lucky me—and while they are always fun and enjoyable people always ask me what I would do differently. Recently, I was asked by a dear friend if I had any fresh ideas about throwing a Barbeque and would I ever consider co-hosting one with her at my home. It only took me a moment to say: “Yes”, followed by, “Only if I can call it a MAR-BE-QUE”. So that you can be in the loop, too, here are my fun family party ideas that you can incorporate into your next outdoor summer festivities.

Say "Hi!" to Hydrangeas! Say "Hi!" to Hydrangeas!
After recently coming back from my national book tour, I arrived home to the most breathtaking display. My hydrangeas were in full bloom, awaiting my arrival. Hydrangeas, because they bloom from summer all the way through to late fall, are wonderful as a cutting flower and prolific enough for continuous bouquets. (I have 12 varieties and over 40 of these plants, and often have to hand the flowers away by the armload!) Nothing is more striking than an abundant bouquet of any type of hydrangea. Their intense colors are true eye-candy. Plus, because the blooms vary in size and dimension you don't need many to fill a space.

Easy Chicken & Pineapple Salad
I love cooking using fresh ingredients but I'm never shy about maximizing the potential of items from my well-stocked pantry. This is an easy recipe that cuts corners, but does not sacrifice taste or style. That means it's great for last-minute guests--or even last-minute "let's have a picnic!" plans. Perfect with ham or turkey too.

Terrarium Terrarium: A MARvelous Glass Garden
Originally known as a “Wardian Case”, terrariums have been around for about one hundred years. I had my first terrarium when I as eight years old in second grade. We grew beans in cotton in glass jars. It was exciting back then to watch things grow, particularly without dirt. Today, I get a lot of enjoyment from my terrariums as they are intriguing to guests who always find them interesting and beautiful. When they find out how little care is required, they immediately want one.

Doggy See, Doggy Do
Corky, my 16 lb. Miniature Schnauzer is turning thirteen this November and it will be time to celebrate! It’s hard to believe that so much time has passed. How fortunate I have been to have such an amazing little dog that has been the perfect companion all these years. Corky is always ready to join me whether lounging around the house, going shopping or getting ready to go on camera. Everyone loves Corky and truth be told, she is an extension of my life, my friends and my personality.

Snore Or Score With Your Door Snore Or Score With Your Door
Being the Modern Lifestyle Expert, people are always asking me what they can do to make their homes more stylish and inviting to others. It always surprises me how many people never think about how to set the tone with curb appeal. And I mean a very specific focus: the front door. Think you need to own a home to worry about this? Not so. Even for apartment dwellers, your front door sets the tone for what your guests will experience once they’re through the entry.

Doing the Right Thing
(or Spontaneous Acts of Kindness)
Those of you familiar with my articles know that I’m usually inspired by a personal experience which compels me to grab my lap-top and put it down while it’s fresh on my mind. Admittedly, I get great joy in sharing these experiences in the hope that I can help motivate, teach and inspire others.

My Story
A House, A Garden and a Book to Match A House, A Garden and a Book to Match
It’s a story that will make you feel right at home. It began just over a decade ago when Mar Jennings, banker turned author and modern lifestyle expert, bought a three-story colonial townhouse, becoming the foundation on which his creativity and passion for design began to sprout. He added a simple sixteen-by-ten-foot garage in the rear of the property to complement the home’s architectural style and curb appeal. And that was just the beginning.

Thinking Green
Eco Friendly Weddings
What is the newest and fastest growing trend in the multi-billion dollar per year wedding industry? Why going "green" of course. What does going "green" mean. It means that you can have organic or locally grown food, you can be whisked away in a hybrid limo, have your invitations printed on recycled paper or use potted plants instead of cut flowers. "People are making purchasing decisions based on environmental concerns," says Gerald Prolman, the founder of OrganicBouquet.com, an online organic florist. All over the country, caterers now offer pesticide-free menus, and all-natural vintages. More than ever, fine china and linen napkins are returning and the idea of throwaways is, well, being thrown out.
