Winter Trellis

Support Can Be Beautiful
I love climbing and flowering vines of all kinds. I very much wanted to grow some varieties up my eight foot fence in my back yard. The fence also has a trellis on top of it, so the trick was training the vines to reach it.

I bought some very fine (almost invisible) metal wire and eye hooks. I placed an eyehook every twelve inches over the area I wanted to cover, and then strung the wire diagonally. You can see the result and from my back door, the wire is not noticeable.

The vines love the wire trellis and cascade over the top of the fence all summer long. This is a simple project and shouldn’t take more than an hour. The results will add great interest to your fence while providing support for your climbing vines.

And there you have it.
