Creating A Waterless Topiary Bouquet

You can create a beautiful topiary for your home that is fresh, festive and full of color and texture this winter season. Designing your own table topiary bouquet can be rewarding and fun when you have the Mar creative influence. This project is easy and perfect for a special party, or as a party centerpiece. Your friends will notice this creation the moment they walk in the door. It’s simple and fabulous! You’ll see.

Here is what you will need for this MAR project:

  • One cube of oasis- available at your local garden center or craft store.
  • You have some choices–I prefer to use dried Hydrangeas Copper Sedum or even Boxwood clippings from the garden.
  • A sharp knife.
  • A base (a terracotta pot, a cachepot or a salad plate).
  • Floral tape- available at your garden center or craft store.

With your knife, placing your oasis horizontally, carefully begin to cut each corner from the top center to the bottom outside end closest to you. This should resemble a pyramid shape. Once all four corners are done, fasten with two long floral tape strips: one on each side securing the oasis to base. It should stay with no movement. Don’t worry if it doesn’t look neat, or if the shape is not perfect – no one will notice this once finished.

Now you’re ready to add your Hydrangeas, Sedum or Boxwood clippings. Start from the base and work your way up, inserting each stem firmly into the oasis. Continue working around the base to the top with no visible spaces in between.

This topiary bouquet is an easy and beautiful project for just about any time of year. I love to give them as housewarming gifts to my friends and neighbors.

If you are to take this project on you might want to keep in mind that practice makes perfect. Make sure to plan ahead and allow sufficient time to work on your arrangement. Don’t rush it — and allow your creative juices to flow. Experiment with other flowers, and simply enjoy the process each and every time. Once you’re hooked, you’ll be a topiary addict like me. But not to worry, you won’t be alone!

And there you have it.
